On the official 2026 route map for the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade, the harbor is a list of times. The parade is set to leave the tip of Lido Isle at 6:30 p.m. It should reach Woody's Wharf at 6:51, the Balboa Fun Zone at 7:15, Balboa Island's South Bayfront at 7:54 and the Rusty Pelican at 8:43, and finish back at the tip of Lido Isle at 9:00. The 118th parade runs Wednesday through Sunday, December 16 to 20, and the Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce is hosting again.
The parade loops, and the map gives a time for every mark. So the evening plays out differently on each stretch of the harbor. The Peninsula gets it early. Balboa Island and Harbor Island get the middle of the evening. Bay Shores and Mariner's Mile get it late. The waterfront around Lido gets it twice, about two hours apart. Pick your spot by the clock and you've planned most of the night.
A loop of about two and a half hours, one mark at a time
The organizers call it a 14-mile route with more than 100 decorated yachts and boats, and the Marina Park page describes it the same way. The published route map divides that distance into 57 marked points, each with an estimated time. Grouped by stretch of shoreline, the evening looks like this:
| Stretch of harbor | Approximate times | Named points on the map |
|---|---|---|
| Lido Isle and Rhine Channel | 6:30 to 6:51 p.m. | Lido Isle Yacht Club, Lido Isle Bridge, Tip of Lido Peninsula, Woody's Wharf |
| West Peninsula bayfront | 6:52 to 7:10 p.m. | Peninsula Village, Marina Park, Lighthouse Café, American Legion Yacht Club, 15th Street Beach, 10th Street Beach, Newport Harbor Yacht Club, Bay Island |
| Balboa Village | 7:14 to 7:16 p.m. | Newport Landing, Balboa Fun Zone, Balboa Pavilion, Davey's Locker |
| Harbor entrance | 7:25 to 7:41 p.m. | Peninsula Point Beach, Pirate's Cove, China Cove, Balboa Yacht Club, Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club |
| Balboa Island, Little Island and Collins Island | 7:45 to 8:11 p.m. | Little Island Beach, South Bayfront and Grand Canal, Balboa Island Ferry Landing, Collins Island, North Bayfront, Newport Beach Yacht Club |
| Upper harbor and PCH | 8:18 to 8:39 p.m. | Harbor Island, Tavern House Kitchen + Bar, SOL Mexican Cocina, Bay Shores Community Beach, Balboa Bay Resort, Newport Sea Base |
| Mariner's Mile and Lido Marina Village | 8:42 to 9:00 p.m. | Rusty Pelican, Billy's at the Beach, Louie's by the Bay, The Winery, Lido Marina Village, Lido Park, Via Lido Nord's Genoa Beach |
The times are estimates, and the organizers ask spectators to allow extra travel time and arrive early. All city parking lots stay open during the parade.
Around Lido, the parade passes twice
The loop starts and finishes at the tip of Lido Isle, so the boats pass the west end of the harbor at both ends of the evening. They reach the Lido Isle Yacht Club at 6:35, the Tip of Lido Peninsula and the Rhine Channel at 6:49, and Woody's Wharf at 6:51. Then they continue east. They come back past Lido Marina Village at 8:46, Malibu Farm and Lido Bottle Works at 8:47, HanaHaus at 8:48, Lido Park and the Lido Bridge at 8:50, and Genoa Beach on Via Lido Nord at 8:53.
That leaves almost two hours between passes. A household on that side of the harbor can catch the boats near the Rhine Channel before 7:00, have a leisurely dinner and watch them come back past Lido Marina Village before 9:00. The same planning works from the Lido Isle side, where the boats pass early at the Lido Isle Yacht Club and late along Via Lido Nord.
The drone shows fill the gaps at each end of the harbor
This year the parade is expanding its holiday drone shows to two sites so they can be seen from both ends of the harbor. One is over the Balboa Bay Resort, which the schedule lists as Balboa Bay Club. The other is at Peninsula Park near the Fun Zone. The 2026 showtimes on the parade homepage:
- Balboa Bay Club: 6:15 and 8:15 p.m., Thursday through Sunday. Opening night on Wednesday, December 16, starts earlier, at 6:00 p.m., with the second show at 8:15.
- Peninsula Park: 6:45 and 8:00 p.m. every night.
Line those times up with the route map and each site works out differently. At Balboa Village, the 6:45 Peninsula Park show comes about 30 minutes before the boats reach the Fun Zone and Balboa Pavilion at 7:15. The 8:00 show starts while the parade is working along Balboa Island, so anyone who stays in the Village gets a second spectacle after the boats have gone. At the Balboa Bay Resort, the boats don't arrive until 8:35, but the first show goes up at 6:15, or 6:00 on opening night. The 8:15 show starts 20 minutes before the boats come past A+O Restaurant | Bar.
Opening night puts the most into one spot
Wednesday, December 16, has the fullest schedule of the week, and most of it is centered on Marina Park at 1600 W Balboa Blvd. The organizers call it the largest public viewing location on the route. Admission is free. The evening begins at 4:00 p.m. with an opening ceremony and the fourth annual Holiday Market, presented with Vogels Vibes. The market brings together more than 35 local makers and food vendors, plus live music, entertainment, photo ops and activities for kids, and it runs until 8:00 p.m.
At 6:15 p.m., an opening fireworks display goes off from the Newport Pier, if conditions allow it under federal, state and local safety guidelines. The parade reaches Marina Park between about 6:45 and 6:55 p.m. The park has 177 parking spaces, a nautical-themed playground, a picnic area and a sailing center. The boats pass 15th Street Beach at 6:57 and 10th Street Beach at 7:02, so families who arrive at the market late in the afternoon can stay on the West Peninsula for the whole evening.
Dine & Watch reservations run on the same clock
The parade's official viewing restaurants page lists waterfront Dine & Watch options with the time the boats pass each one. Read in order, the list shows when to book a table:
- 6:51 p.m. Woody's Wharf
- 6:52 p.m. Peninsula Village: CasaDami, Shorebird Restaurant and Buona Forchetta
- 6:55 p.m. Lighthouse Bayview Cafe
- 6:56 p.m. Sons of American Legion
- 7:14 p.m. Newport Landing Restaurant
- 7:15 p.m. Harborside Restaurant
- 8:35 p.m. A+O Restaurant | Bar at Balboa Bay Resort
- 8:43 p.m. Rusty Pelican Restaurant and GuacAmigos
- 8:44 p.m. Louie's by the Bay and Billy's at the Beach
- 8:45 p.m. The Winery Restaurant and Wine Bar
- 8:46 p.m. Lido Marina Village
- 8:47 p.m. Malibu Farm and Lido Bottle Works
- 8:48 p.m. HanaHaus
There's an 80-minute gap in the middle of that list, between Harborside at 7:15 and A+O at 8:35. The Peninsula Village and Balboa Village tables see the boats before 7:20, and the Mariner's Mile and Lido Marina Village group sees them after 8:30. A 6:00 p.m. reservation suits one end of the harbor, and an 8:00 p.m. reservation suits the other. The same page has a longer Dine & Walk directory of places within walking distance of public viewing spots. It includes The Crab Cooker, Bluewater Grill, The Cannery Seafood of The Pacific, Sugar 'N Spice, Ruby's Diner, Wilma's Patio Restaurant and Balboa Candy.
For free viewing, the map marks public spots including Marina Park, the 10th and 15th Street beaches, Peninsula Point Beach, Pirate's Cove Beach, China Cove Beach, Little Island Beach and Point, Bay Shores Community Beach, Newport Pier, Balboa Pier, Peninsula Park, View Park, the West Jetty Lookout and the Balboa Village Boardwalk. The best viewing locations page also lists reserved viewing at Newport Sea Base. The route map puts the boats there at about 8:39 p.m.
The Ring of Lights is judged two days before the first boat
The parade's waterfront decorating contest runs on its own calendar. The Ring of Lights is open to harborfront homes, businesses and yacht clubs. Entry costs $35, and completed registrations are due to the Chamber by noon on Friday, December 11. Judging takes place on Monday, December 14, two days before opening night, so decorations need to be up by then. Entrants are eligible for awards and may appear on the live parade broadcast. The Chamber takes entry questions at (949) 729-4400. Registration is on the Ring of Lights entry page.
The 2025 winners list shows where those awards went. Balboa Island took six Ring of Lights awards, among them Sweepstakes Best Overall and Best Lights and Animation. Lido Isle took four, including the Mayor's Award and Best on Lido. Harbor Island took two. Other winners came from Corona del Mar, Peninsula Point and the Balboa Peninsula, and the Balboa Yacht Club won Best Yacht Club.
On the water, the 2025 Sweepstakes went to Serenity Now!, which won the Bill Lusk Award. Paradise Found won Sweepstakes Non Commercial, and Star Search was named Best Yacht Club Entry.
The islands that collect the most awards also have fixed slots on the timetable. The boats reach Balboa Island's South Bayfront and Grand Canal at 7:54 and Harbor Island at 8:18. They pass Lido Isle at the start of the evening and come back along Via Lido Nord at 8:53.
